Improved security features on Canadian Permanent Resident Card
Citizenship and Immigration Minister Jason Kenney announced on August 24th, 2009 the newly designed Canadian Permanent Resident card.



The card has been redesigned with the latest technology in order to prevent the fraudulent use of same. The minister is quoted as stating "The new card contains security features that comply with international standards for travel documents. Technology is continuously evolving and it is important that our standards keep up."



The card has been issued as of August 24th, 2009 and is composed of micro-lettering and fine line patterns that are resistant to copying. The resident’s photograph and inscribed details are recorded on a bar code in an encrypted format which can only be read by authorized officials.
